Brian
is excited as he waits outside the Auditorium with his fellow graduates before the ceremony.
Pride is evident as the graduates are honored on the stage in front of family, friends, and the entire school. GRADUATE PREPARATION
As a student approaches his/final the years prior to graduation, the staff at The Felician School works closely with the parents and child study teams of that student to develop a plan for post-graduate life. If a district has a local job-sampling program, our staff will assist and cooperate with scheduling and will meet with the local job coaches to assure success within the student's own community.
Post-graduate life for our students may include a job and/or volunteer work within the community, participation in a sheltered workshop or activity center, or living in a group home. Just as importantly, our students need to be a contributing family participants. It is anticipated that our program will insure that the students will:
- Develop basic employment skills and behaviors necessary for the workplace or the community.
- Develop and utilize positive work ethics and attitudes.
- Develop vocational skills necessary for employment in specific areas of training.
- Develop positive social pre-vocational, independent, and functional academic skills and utilize them appropriately outside the classroom environment.
- Develop critical life skills in order to be functional members of society.
In addition ... The Felician School contracts with Community Personnel Services (CPS) to assist families with planning/paperwork, connecting with Dept of Developmental Disabilities and Dept of Vocational Rehabilitation, and training for Access Link, etc.
Mr. Thomas, Dana's Grandfather, speaking from a "family's perspective" at the 2012 Graduation Ceremony: " We kept looking for that magic pill that would help Dana and we finally found it at The Felician School!"
