Our Behavior Management system is one that stresses a positive approach to motivate appropriate behavior in all of our students. This approach rewards behavioral compliance and academic effort. Students are able to earn various privileges by demonstrating good conduct. All staff members are encouraged to initiate efforts to provide adequate structure, establish class rules, reinforce appropriate behavior and identify behavioral and academic goals. This system creates a consistent environment which promotes a sense of security and a positive learning environment for our students.
Some of the strategies that are implemented in our behavioral management system include: ignoring inappropriate behavior, redirection of student’s attention to an area of interest, maintaining flexibility to meet the needs of each student, and offering a clear and concise explanation of why behaviors are inappropriate. These procedures enable the students to be successful and productive.
The counseling program at The Felician School is provided by the School Psychologist. All counseling is provided on a scheduled or as needed basis. Students receive counseling if it is mandated in their I.E.P. or recommended by the school director, the classroom teacher or school psychologist.
Counseling is provided on both an individual and group basis. Individual counseling addresses those issues that are fundamental to the students' problems. Group counseling which is provided on a weekly basis serves to help students learn and demonstrate socially appropriate behavior. It also helps the students develop self-control and encourages them to make socially acceptable decisions. |
