Recognizing the human dignity of individuals with special needs, The Felician School attempts to provide these individuals with quality educational programs. Based on individual levels of functioning, the school's educational programs stress independence and acceptable behavior, both within the school setting and within the community. In a climate of acceptance and respect, students are prepared for as independent and productive adulthood as they are capable of attaining. All persons are created to fulfill a unique mission on this earth, to bring into the lives of all they touch, special gifts. It is our goal at The Felician School to prepare the students for their special mission and our privilege to be able to do so.

The Administration and Staff of The Felician School for Exceptional Children,
have implemented an exciting and innovative program designed to meet the individual
and specific need of each student. Our program was inspired by the “Elsmere
Project,” a vocational program for developmentally disabled students, ages 3 to 21.
The basis of this project was developed to prepare our students to function in society
as independently as possible. At Felician, we agree with the importance of this goal. |

Too often many of these students reach chronological adulthood with an impoverished sense of their own dignity, potential and independence. They are ill-equipped for adapting to our work-oriented society. Felician, therefore, has adopted the Elsmere Project's unique curriculum and developed a program which addresses this problem at every age level. From the youngest to the oldest, our program is geared toward developing in our students the skills, attitudes and behaviors necessary for obtaining and maintaining employment. |
